Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to attend every week?
No, everyone misses a few meetings, but the more often you attend, the quicker you will advance in your skill set.
Do I need to do speeches?
Toastmasters is a self-directed program, where you speak as often as you feel comfortable. There are other roles in the program that you will be encouraged to do, to get comfortable in the meeting setting. The sooner you take the step to do a speech, the easier it will be.
Do I need to attend in-person?
No, the in-person part of the meeting is available for members who live close enough to attend. All meetings have a virtual option and some members only attend online.
What age are the members?
The age range of the members varies from year to year. At meetings we are considered ageless. You do need to be 18 years or older, but you can be in your nineties.
Is there a Leadership part to Toastmasters?
Yes, everyone has the opportunity to lead in some way. You may be the Chairperson for a meeting, or hold an executive role for the club. The opportunity to lead at higher levels, such as a Director of a District is also available. Each new leadership role has training and new skills are learned.
How long is the program?
There is no set time to the program. Some members stay in the program for years to keep their skills tuned. There are members who have been in the program for more than 20 years. There are other who stay for 6 months or a year.
How much does it cost?
Membership to Toastmasters is about $120.00 for six month, which works out to be about $5.00 a meeting. There is also a one time new member fee to cover the cost of joining and learning materials. This is $35.00. Due do go up if the club's cost rise.
How often can I come as a guest?
Our club does not put a limit on the number of meetings you can attend as a guest. You only have access to the learning materials and awards if you become a paid member.
