What I Wish I Knew When

I Joined Toastmasters

Your Audience wants you to succeed.

  • We all started with an Ice Breaker
  • We remember the nerves
  • We had a lot to learn

You Don't Need to be Perfect

  • Every member comes with his/her own skills
  • Learning curves are different
  • Evaluators will encourage and help you improve

Evaluators are meant to help

  • You will get many different comments
  • Your evaluator is also learning
  • Focus on the positive comments

Write in a conversational style

  • Only memorize opening and closing
  • Use key words for body
  • Close with impact and/or a call to action

Relax and have fun.

You will advance more quickly, if you learn to relax and have fun as a speaker.
